Czernowitzers... I am in contact with a fellow named Alejandro
Kinsbrunner whose grandfather was born in Czernowitz in 1901. Indeed his
gf's birth record has been transcribed and is available through Daniel
Horowitz's database.
The problem is that my correspondent is trying to re-establish his
Austrian citizenship, and the Austrian authorities will only take
certified proof that the proper documentation exists. He has in his
possession a copy 1938 document from the then Romanian govt. to that
effect which can't be used as it is not an 'original'. I have posted
this document on the Blog at:

Is there any way to get an official document from either the Archives or
the municipal government to the effect that 1901 birth of this fellow's
gf was properly registered in 1901?
It seems to me likely that others have run into similar problems -- so,
what to do?
