Hi
First facts: My family and I left "Cariera de Piatra" on Christmas Eve 1942
(the picture is dated February 1943) so I'm not able to confirm about the
Barack, but if I remember well after so many years, the white-haired man on
the second level "pritch", at the right, might be Dr. Sternberg.
Generally speaking Dr. Sternberg's notes are in a belletristic style. On
"Ehpes" we have Bobie Schneider's notes, and it's my opinion that the best
comprehensive material about "Cariera de Piatra" can be found in Immanuel
Weissglas' German booklet - "Ein Steinbruch am Bug".

Cornel: No, unfortunately this book doen't exist in English. Actually it's
just an ebook, wich I compiled from Dr. Hermann Sternberg's original diary
adding a front cover designed specially for this purpose by me. On the front
cover you'll discover Hermann's pass from Bershad as well as one of Arnold
Daghani's most famous paintings, showing the "Barack" in Cariera de Piatra
camp in Transnistria:

Yosef Eshet: By any chance, do you know if Dr. Hermann Sternberg was
captured by Arnold Daghani on his painting above?
Hardy: You are very right and your short analysis comes straight to the
point. As far as I know, Dr. Hermann Sternberg testified against war
criminals and for reparations in Germany in the 1960ies.
Yoram: Is the the diamond ring with the initials of the Emperor, which your
grandfather got on the occasion of his graduation still owned by your
family?
Warmest wishes to all of you!
