Hi Rachel,
There is a very large Niedermayer family in Portland, OR> They are not
Jewish, but I always wondered if they are. I was friendly with one woman
years ago, but haven't seen her in as many years. But you might want to
research the Portland family. Living in Oregon, I think a lot of people
were Jewish but came out west to be something else. In fact, I often read
the obituaries and see things like...Jacob Goldstein, member of the
Methodist church... So I wouldn't dismiss the fact that they could be
Jewish. In fact, an Native American guy I know, who was chairman of his
tribe for a while, told me that when his mom died, he had gone thru her
papers and found letters from his dad that indicated that his family was not
just German, but in fact were German Jews. He was half Jewish, half
Indian, never knew he was Jewish. I told him that now he had two tribes...

Hi Rachel,
Thanks for joining our group! May I ask first where you've gone already to
obtain information? Before I list a few suggestions, please let us know if
you've checked the Czernowitz vital records database, the Rom-Sig Bukovina
Vital Records Project, or the Czernowitz Cemetery Database on the JewishGen
Online Worldwide Burial Registry? Have you checked various online Bukovina
home and business address directories that Edgar Hauster has posted online?
There are many resources out there; perhaps one or more will yield some
highly useful information for you.
Warmest wishes,
Bruce
