Marsha,
There are numerous gentile Niedermayers, but very few spell it like we do.
According to my great grandmother, when they were handing out names we "got
a good name (meaning one that wasn't obviously Jewish sounding or a put
down)." She always implied that it meant we were somewhat important, but
it's possible we just paid to get it.
