Hi Mimi, I read your mail about Manfred Stern...Take an advisE, the
biographies of Google are not always true...I have the book, written by Sidi
Gross, Manfred Stern was one of the 4 brothers of her mother...He was born
in Stanesti, in Bukowina, studied in Vienna and was soldier in the civil
Spanish war, under the name of Emilio Kleber, after that war he was
comander in the sowiet army against the Japanese army . The thanks from the
Sowjet Leadere ...they sent hm to Kamtchatka , like the Gulag, for slavery
work, ...was some difference between Hitler and Stalin.....where he
died...His brothers. als p spanish fighters, were students at the military
Academy, I know that the youngest uncle of Sidi became University Professor
in Halle, Germany, and Sidi paid a visit to him... The book is written in
English and German, published in Tel/Aviv under the titlr> General Manfred
Stern alias Emilio Kleber by Sidi Gross.
Best regards and a nice sejour in Czernowitz

While in Czernowitz, I noticed a street name and a memorial plaque
To Manfred Stern. I googled him and found out that he was born in Hliboka
south of Czernowitz, was a Soviet spy in America, high up in the NKVD
And GRU. He was also known as Moshe Stern, or Lazar Stern.
