Dear Iris,
Welcome to our marvellous, informative and gregarious List. 10 years
ago there was a meeting of one of the early List members. Again I went,
as some years in the past, to the Jewish House where there was a
one-room "museum" for Eliezer Steinbarg, and there I met a woman and a
man who were in charge. The museum had as furniture just an old desk
with a chair, and one the walls some old photographs and newspaper clips
of Steinbarg and other Czernowitzer Jewish authors. The man told me his
name, I believe he was called "Schmatnik", not tall, with balck-grey
hair and green eyes. He looked about 50ish. Both were very poorly dressed.
A few days later I went back with two group members and we donated some
money to the museum. More I don't remember, but maybe the Jewish
Community administration could give you some information.
