I beg to differ Cornel,

Not only do I remember the event it to have happened one week before, there
is also the announcement in the Russian Army newspaper from the 31.03.1944
Prikaz Verhovnovo Glavnokomanduishcea tov.Stalina to the first Ukrainian
Army thanking them for liberating the town. On the 30.03.44 accordingly
there was an artillery salve at 20.00 hours in Moskau to celebrate the
event.
