A Shtetl in the Caribbean, will be screened publicly for the first
time in South Florida on Monday, February 26 at 7pm. The film opens
the Aventura Turnberry Jewish Center's Jewish Heritage Film Series and
I will be there for a Q&A session after the screening. For more

Shtetl was filmed in 5 countries and 7 languages (sub-titled in
English), and tells the story of Ashkenazi Jews who found refuge on
the Dutch island of Curaçao before and after WWII. Included is the
story of my father and his brothers born in Waszkoutz am Czeremosch,
who left Bukovina and Czernowitz in the 1920's. The film also
describes the history of both parents of my childhood friend, Tsale
Kirzner, who were from the towns of David-Horodok and Mikashevichi in
Belarus, and arrived after the Holocaust. Along the way you will meet
island natives employed by the immigrants and actual survivors from
both the pre-war and post-Holocaust era. The film was directed by
Sherman de Jesus and features an original score by Randal Corsen.
