Dear Ruth,

Sometimes there are coincidences that can’t be just coincidences. Two days before, I was sitting over my script for my project about Selma Merbaum and I was trying to re-think
of the way she might have been spoken. I have heard the Czernowitzer Deutsch spoken before but I have never seen it written and
also not only written but really somehow analyzed which helped me understand the character and the functionalism of the Czernowitzer Deutsch.
I am a German native speaker but anyway - this is so different and difficult to rebuild for me. It helped me a lot to understand much more the atmosphere of that time and „sunken world“ what is necessary for my work.
Thank you so much for sharing this with us. I enjoyed it so much (and yes, I also had a good laugh.) Dr. Hacken had a very humorous style in presenting it.
Ruth, would you kindly allow me to use some of the expressions in my script, please? For example, the expressions „ich gehe mich baden“ and the „Maturant“ would help me a lot for my script. Would that be ok for you?
Of course, I will cite where it comes from and indicate my sources!

Just loved the text. If anybody has texts of that kind where I can get a feeling for the Czernowitzer Deutsch - I would be the happiest person to have the chance to read it. Thanks to the group!
With best wishes,
Sarah

These pages were given to me by Dr. Hacken(deceased) during an international gathering of Czernowitzians in Miami in the winter of 1990.Thinking that it might be of interest to our members, I took it upon myself to retype the text into a clean version and share it with you.
