Czernowitzers...
Yet another bibliophilic rarity at our Czernowitz Book Corner: The trilingual (German / Romanian / Hebrew [or Yiddish?]) "Jewish Almanac for Greater Romania for the Year 5683 (1922-23)"
http://czernowitzbook.blogspot.de/2018/03/jewish-almanac-for-greater-romania.html
is Dr. Markus Krämer's ambitious attempt to demonstrate different Jewish cultural influences on post WW1 Greater Romania. Former Jewish communites from Austria (Bukovina), Hungary (Transylvania) and Russia (Bessarabia) met the autochtonous one from Romania after WW1. Dr. Markus Krämer (27.10.1887 – 02.06.1964), another notable Czernowitzer,

was President of the Local Commitee of the General Zionists, lawyer, local council, Deputy Party Chairman of the Jewish Party for the Bukovina and member of the Jewish student’s corporation J.N.A.V. Zephirah. Although he claimed to represent the entire country, his Czernowitz roots are undeniable and thus at least three quarters of the almanac are directly related to Czernowitz and Bukovina.
The famous Yiddish poet, fabulist and teacher Eliezer Steinbarg took care of the Hebrew [or Yiddish?] part of the almanac. Please don't miss the illustrations by Jakob Eisenscher, Salomon Lerner, Arthur Kolnik, Reuven Rubin and Benno Reder. Hold this bibliophilic rarity "in your own hands" and enjoy the reading!
