Dear Edgar, dear all,
Yes, the passing away of Edgar Hilsenrath is a sad news at the end of the year. A giant left us. Unfortunately, the obituary by his present publisher is a shame - unworthy of the deceased. To a big extent it consists of descriptions of litigations, conspiracy theories and bizarre political opinions - all of them have nothing to do with Hilsenrath's brilliant novels and his meaningful legacy. As Edgar said, may Edgar Hilsenrath's memory be a blessing! And if you didn't read his books yet, do it now!
Warm wishes and a blessed 2019 to all of you!

Betreff: [Cz-L] Edgar Hilsenrath Passed Away
Czernowitzers...
It is my sad duty to inform you that Edgar Hilsenrath passed away yesterday, on December 30, 2018. Fellow member Mark Wiznitzer drew our attention to an extensive obituary released (preliminarily in German language) at Edgar Hilsenrath's website:
http://hilsenrath.de/nachruf/
For all of us to whom books mean so very much, to whom books are absolutely essential for life, it will take us time to totally comprehend this loss. I met Edgar Hilsenrath once during one of his readings in Germany and we had a short conversation on our common Jewish Bukovinian roots. I shared with him much more than our common first name. May his memory be a blessing!
