Mark,

Thanks for taking the time to help me out. Maybe you can help with the following. If I'm adding these people to the family tree, would I add their last name as their mother's or would I leave it blank. If I know who the father is, would I add his children with his last name. I'm just not sure what the correct thing to do would be. Any advice you can give?

Apparently, if the father was not registered as the husband, the child

instance of this happening with the six first cousins of my father who
like him were born in Vashkovitz (Vashkivtsi), but had their mother
Malkah's maiden name Lifshitz, though the father was Shalom Wiznitzer.

Hello,

Can someone please explain some of the instances where a father would not be listed on a particular birth record. What I have found is the child will have the same last name as the mother. What are some of the reasons for this?

Thanks,
