Czernowitzers...

Please let me rectify my yesterday's posting by informing you that it is NOT Hugo Gold's "History of the Jews in Bukowina" which was released in an Ukrainian translation, BUT Dr. Hermann Sternberg's "Zur Geschichte der Juden von Czernowitz" [On the History of the Jews of Czernowitz]:

http://www.books-xxi.com.ua/news/istoriya-chernivetskih-evreiv-rozkazana-v-tel-avivi

This said, please let me draw your attention to our "Book of the Month", May 2015 Edition, brought to you by courtesy of Yoram Amadon, Dr. Hermann Sternberg's grandson:

By the way, since fall 2019 Dr. Sergij Osatschuk, the Governor of Chrinivtsi, is no more Austrian Honorary Consul. Sorry for confusion and, dear Guenther F. Guggenberger, thank you for the essential corrections.

Czernowitzers...

End of April I drew your attention to Gaelle Fisher's new book "Resettlers & Surviviors • Bukovina and the Politics of Belonging in West Germany and Israel, 1945-1989":

http://ehpes.com/blog1/?p=10924

Gaelle's introduction to her book starts with a reference to Georg Drozdowski. In this context we are aware of Günther F. Guggenberger's book "Georg Drozdowski in literarischen Feldern zwischen Czernowitz und Berlin (1920-1945)" [Georg Drozdowski in Literary Fields between Czernowitz and Berlin (1920-1945)]. Günther, OSCE Envoy to Czernowitz / Ukraine, let us all know that Hugo Gold's "History of the Jews in Bukowina" [Geschichte der Juden in der Bukowina]

https://www.jewishgen.org/yizkor/Bukowinabook/Bukowina.html

now appeared in Ukrainian Language on the initiative of Dr. Sergij Osatschuk, the Governor of Chrinivtsi and Austrian Honorary Consul in Chernivtsi. Quite remarkable and fully in line with Paul Celan's statement: "Czernowitz was a place where people and books used to live..."
