We in Australia,- or at least in Melbourne have had for years a product
in tubs called "Jenny's shmaltz". It looks, tastes and smells like real
shmaltz,- but it is wholly vegetarian and kosher!
It was introduced here by a South African immigrant many years ago.
Mamaliga is nowadays very easy to make with 1- minute polenta. I like it
with cheese,- cottage or branza/fetta. Sometimes I make it for an
accompaniment to goulash,- but generally I am the only one in the family
who likes it!
