Hi, Czernowitzers,

The movie "This Year in Czernowitz" was reviewed this
week in "The J" [formerly the Jewish Bulletin of
Northern California]. The movie appears to be a good
resource for Czernowitz researchers, giving visual
depth to the stories we all have read about a beloved
way of life that was cut short.

This is the second documentary about Czernowitz by the
director, Volker Koepp. I have no idea when or where
else the movie will be shown. Perhaps some of the JGS
will get copies to show to the membership. Maybe it
could be a film at the IAJGS in Las Vegas this summer.

Here's the web-site of the review [of which I have
reprinted the first two paragraphs below.]

<With patience and subtlety, ìThis Year in Czernowitzî
links the profound disruption of the Holocaust to
modern waves of immigration, dislocation and
multicultural cross-pollination.

This German documentary is composed mostly of
interviews with a handful of emigres who are either
survivors or the children of survivors. Their memories
of the city of Czernowitz ó or the stories their
parents told them, in the cases of those born
elsewhere ó are as precious as childhood mementos...>
