My name is Jerry Lapides I was born in Czernowitz in 1931 from American
parents. Officially I am a naturalized US citizen as of the day I was born.
Both my parents were born in Czernowitz. My father in the ghetto, my mother
outside the ghetto. I visited Czernowitz with my cousins (we are children of
three Glasberg sisters) in 1996. I have pictures and I wrote an account of
our trip. Some of the members of the list received the booklet in 1997.

Among my cousins I was the only one who visited Czernowiz before WWII. The
last time(before the 1996 trip) was 1938. My parents and I emigrated to
Palestine in 1934. My mother and I returned to Czernowitz in the summers of
1934, 1935, 1936, 1937 and 1938.

On my paternal side we are connected to Lapides or Lapidot and to Schacter
families. My father's sisters married into the Orenstein family, the
Goldstein family and the Apter family, we are also connected to a Miller
family.

On my maternal side my grand father was Samuel Glasberg ( He was murdered by
the Iron Guard in Bucharest in 1941) he married into the Engler family who
were connected to the Reif family. Engler-Glasberg had a lumber business
that supplied lumber around the world. My grandfather Glasberg was born in
Kuti the birth place of the Baal Shem Tov.

I have numerous cousins on both sides of the my fore bearers.

I am related to Ruth Glasberg Gold who authored: "A Survivor's Memoir:
Ruth's
Journey", her story and the travails of the deportation of the Jews of
Czernowitz to Transnistria. It was published by the University Press of
Florida and later in Hebrew by Yad Vashem. I invited Ruth to join the list.

Warmly

Jerry Lapides, Ph.D.
