Hello,
I just joined the Czernowizt list.
My name is Moshe Reder
My parents lived in Czernowitz between for many years, between 1918 and
1941.
My father was the only survivor of a family of 8 ( 2 parents and 6
siblings). My mother and 3 siblings survived. The other members died.
My father's family name is Reder. My mother's maiden name is Friedman.
Both my mother and my father are no longer alive. They died of natural
causes.
I do have some information about my mother's side since there were 3
survivors.
I have very little information about the family of my father.
So far, I was unable to track down reliable data.
The assumption is that my grandparents (father's side) and 5 of their 6
children died either during the long march to Transnistria or in the
concentration camp.
My grandfather was called Moses Reder (or Moshe Reder or some similar
first name - obviously, I am named after my grandfather). My grandmother
was called Toni Blima Reder. Her maiden name was Toni Blima Gelles. Her
father was called Esra Gelles.
Both (Moses and Toni) were born in 1887. Moses was born in Sniatyn
(Galicia) and Toni Blima was born in Czernowitz.
They married in Czernowizt on November 11, 1910.
The had 6 children: Sami (probably Samuel), Rosa, Sali (probably Sarah),
Hencia and Erna, plus my father.
I found a few Reder names from Czernowitz on the internet but they do not
seem directly related to my immediate family.
I do understand that the Reders have been living for a while (one or two
generations, at least) in Czernowitz. By this, I mean the town itself and
not a town near Czernowitz. I also believe that the Gelles have been
living in Czernowitz for a while.
So, my first priority is to find out any information that could lead to an
understanding of what happened to my family. I certainly would like to
know when and how they died.
As a second priority, I would like to understand a bit more about what the
family did and perhaps find some relatives that managed to survive
By the way, by father's name was Abraham Reder. My mother's name was
Kreindel Reder (maiden name was Friedman).
I hope that this provides you some information about my background.
If you have suggestions or information, I certainly would appreciate it.
Best way to contact me is via email, at mreder_at_us.ibm.com (or
mreder_at_pacbell.net - but I do not use this one very often)
Sincerely,
Moshe Reder
