Dear Czernowitzers,

Now that we have the responses to the questionnaire, I think that we can
agree and decide on some plans for the reunion, but need more information
and more discussion before we agree on other plans and programs.

In my opinion the plans we can agree on are:

1. The reunion be named Cz-L reunion. (We do need a name to be used in
correspondence with hotels, city officials, etc.)

2. Time and location: Chernivtsy Ukraine, Aug.18 till Aug.25 2006

3. Travel arrangements to and from the reunion shall be made on an
individual basis or in groups as desired, without involvement of
the Cz-List as a whole or any reunion organizing committee we may elect.

I think we need further reliable information before we arrange for group
hotel rates at either the hotel Cheremosh or the hotel Bukovyna or both.
I have sent E-mail to both, have received a partial answer from the
Cheremosh and none from the Bukovyna. They both have web sites;
The official website for the city of Chernivtsi is: <www.city.cv.ua>
It includes a section on tourism and hotels.
The website for the hotel Bukowyna is: <www.Hotel.cv.ua>
The website for the hotel Cheremosh is: http://cheremosh.chv.ukrpack.net

The Bukovyna is located in quadrant Fh on the 1941 map, facing Strada
Transilvaniei between Str. Spitalelor and Str. Lapusneanu, opposite the
southern end of the Volksgarten. The Cheremosh is located south of the
Hospital for nervous disorders, #72 on the 1941 map, in what would have been
quadrant Fk.

[Moderator's Note: This map can be found on the group web site via
this directly link:

It would be very helpful if anyone who knows both hotels from recent
personal experience would compare them and give us their opinion. I was told
that the Bukovyna does not have conference room facilities, but on their
website, it is claimed that they do.

I suggest that day trips from Czernowitz to the surrounding villages, towns
and sights in the Ukraine, including Transnistria, be done individually or
in small groups by those interested, with or without local guides.

There have been suggestions from members of the Cz-l in regard to various
guides. Possibly each of these guides should send us information about the
destination of the trips they offer, mode of transportation and cost to each
participant. Each one of us could then decide which trips we wish to take.

Visits to towns and villages in the southern Bucovina, Romania, should not
be done as day trips from Chernivtsy, since they require crossing the
border. Again, visits to this area can be done individually or in small
groups of people who share the same interest, with or without guides.

I think we need further discussion before we decide on group activities and
programs while in Czernowitz, I suggest that we use David Glynn's ideas on
this topic as a starting point. I further suggest that no later than mid
October we elect a committee to make the final decisions regarding the plans
and programs for the reunion and let this committee put those plans into
action.

We also need to discuss whether we, as a group should attempt to pressure
the city authorities to clean and maintain the cemetery, and the "Temple".
Also make the city archives and cemetery burial register and burial plot
plans, pre and post 1945, available to those who want to see them.

These are only my suggestions, I hope everyone will feel free to make their
own suggestions to the whole group, so we can have an open discussion and
reach decisions which are agreeable to the majority.

All the best, Mimi
