Dear Czernowitzers,

I think we may now have reached the time when we could vote on the various
suggestion for the program of the "reunion".

Or, possibly, we should discuss the name or title for the meeting, we have
come to call "reunion", first?

NAME OR TITLE
Some have objected to the term "reunion", since many of us have never met,
nor have ever been to Czernowitz. Some have said that we do not need a name
or title. I think that we do need a name, if only to be able to refer to it
easily. I would like to urge all to give this some thought, then E-mail the
Cz. list with your suggestions.
My suggestions are: "Cz. List meeting" or "Cz.L, Chernivtsi 2006".
Please mail your suggestions by Sept. 21, so the voting on them could be
finished by Sept. 29 and the name or title announced before Rosh Hashana.

PROGRAM
I will now list all the suggestions for the program. Some of these
suggestions have been made in E-mail letters to our list, some have been
made on Jerome's Czernowitz website and others were made as responses to the
questionnaire. I may paraphrase some of the writing.

List of suggestions for the program:

1. Organized tour or walk of Czernowitz, with "old timers" comparing
    the present and the past.

2. May 19, Evening - Kabbalat Shabbat service at the Synagogue.

3. Social get-together in order that we get to know each other and our
    connection to Czernowitz.

4. Walking tour of the Jewish section of town.

5. Discussion about Czernowitz Jewish identity.

6. Meeting with the current Jewish inhabitants of Chernivtsi.

7. Czernowitz walks in small groups of people who share a particular
interest. Some of these are: The theatre, the university, the Herz
    -Jesu church and other churches.

8. A panel of survivors to be asked questions of their experiences and
    memories. Survivors presenting their testimonies.

9. A dinner with the Mayor and members of the local Jewish
community, a festival with music and entertainment, a wonderful party.

10. Visit with the participation of the Mayor and Dignitaries to the Jewish
cemetery and the monument to the 400 men shot by the Germans when they
     entered Cernauti.

11. Visit to the Jewish cemetery and the monument to the 400 men shot in
1941, saying Kadish, WITHOUT INVITING THE MAYOR AND OR THE DIGNITARIES.

12. Meeting with the mayor and possibly his staff, to discuss our concern
over the state of the cemetery and it's possible restoration.

13. Lectures by historians, political scientists and psychologists about our
     shared interest and heritage.

14. Lecture and discussion about the culture of Czernowitz in different
     periods.

15. Organized visit to the archives, (this may not be possible, they may not
     allow entrance to large groups).

16. "End of tour" meeting to reflect on what we saw and what we felt.

In the above list I intentionally did not include day trips to localities
which, even though very close to Chernivtsi, are not in the city itself and
will require special transportation and or, are likely to be of interest to
only some. This includes trips to Sadagura, Cecina, Wijnitza, Ocna, etc.
Various groups, each interested in a particular locality could organize
trips to such places.

Please forgive me if I forgot anyone's suggestions and please add to this
list as you wish. It will make voting on it much easier if any suggestions
which are added are given a consecutive number.

All the best, und auf Wiedersehen in Czernowitz,
                                                 Mimi
