I wonder if folks on this list could provide other readings, in English,
about life in Cz and Galicia around the turn of the 19-20th century. I
would love to hear from you. I am just finishing up a book entitled
Borderland, by Anna Reid. It is an extremely readable history of
Ukraine, and provides great insights into why Ukraine "is the way it is
..." I am learning a lot.

On a related note, I would like to say a couple of other things: when I
joined this list not quite a year ago, it seemed to be developing an
increasingly robust spirit - there was lots of conversation, sharing of
stories, inquires, etc. It seems to have subsided considerably and I'm
wondering why. If it is because everything that matters is over at
yahoo on the "trip" list, then should we just migrate over there? just
asking.

Finally, I want to say thank you to everyone whom I've communicated with
on this list this year. I visited Cz, Kolomayja and other towns in
Ukraine this year for the first time. I have learned so much, and feel
as though I have found a new "place" for myself in this world. I look
forward to learning more, and becoming acquainted with more of you as
2006 starts up.

Best wishes,
Nina
