Hi Nina:
Back when we were a group of 5-15 subscribers in 1997/98, we had a
great deal of exchange and interaction, back and forth. We now have
247 subscribers from around the world! I think in a group this
large, there are many who prefer to read the posts and may be a bit
shy about posting a note themselves. Activity in the group is
entirely dependent on contributions from subscribers. If no one
posts a message, no messages are sent to the group.
There are times when new subscribers join, and they convey to the
group messages of interest regarding their family backgrounds, or
other interesting information they've come by, and a flurry of emails
will follow. It's been most gratifying to be able to re-connect lost
family members via the list, and many list members have also been
re-connected with old friends with the help of the list. I would
encourage new members to check out the "Czernowitz Family Finder" on
our web site, czernowitz.ehpes.com, and to send their own listings
directly to web person, Jerome Schatten <romers_at_shaw.ca>.
Anyone who wishes to do so, can always join the "Czernowitz Reunion
2006" discussion group on the Yahoo web site, but I think we had a
pretty good consensus when that site was created that the regular
group for discussion of Czernowitz/Sadagora Jewish History and
Genealogy would remain here <Czernowitz-L_at_cornell.edu> while the
discussion of the trip to Czernowitz planned for May 2006 would
migrate to the Yahoo web site.
So - let's stay with Cz-L, and I look forward to reading posts,
especially from new members and "lurkers"!, regarding their interests
in Czernowitz/Sadagora Jewish History and Genealogy. By the way,
many of our members can also be quite helpful with your questions
about other Bukovina towns e.g. Solca, Gura Humora, Zastavna,
Storojinets, Siret, and more.
