To keep the historical record right, I must point out that the "Tempel" in
Czernowitz was set on fire on July 9, 1941, by the Germans, (Ref: Carp
"Cartea Neagra" vol.3, p. 33, et alia) specifically by members of SS
Einsatzgruppe D, headquartered at the Schwarzer Adler and under the command
of Otto Ohlendorf. I was in Czernowitz at the time. In 1946, I attended the
war crime trial of Ohlendorf before a U.S. Military Tribunal at Nuremberg
where he was sentenced to death and executed.
