Re the picture...
I tend to agree with Arthur, though it is hard to pin down what I dislike
about the picture. Possibly it is the elongated hands and fingers, which
have something of caricature about them.
It is not so much that I object to the picture myself. Rather, I feel that
actual or potential antisemites viewing the site might perhaps regard this
picture as reaffirming their views.
Re the museum...
Hardy thinks that this virtual museum has nothing to do with the Bukovina
Jewish Museum of Natalia Shevchenko. I agree, I have not seen any
connection. Hardy also says that he believes it is based in Israel. If
that is the case, would the site not be .il rather than .ru? (Just
wondering...)
From the comments on the Gruss site,

I would venture the following translation, with the assistance of
Google-translate and an on-line Ukrainian translator. Apologies for the
rather feeble effort - I stand to be corrected!

(Remember the anecdote:
Question: "What is the second official language of Israel ?"
Answer: Ivrit. Because the first is Russian.)
As the author of the site, I hasten to declare that there is the intention
to gradually make versions in other languages: ideally, Ukrainian, English,
German. Super-ideally there would be a Yiddish version, but unfortunately I
do not even dream about this.
So far, however, the Russian version is only one third complete, but I
continue to work. :-)))

"there is the intention .."
Really it is complicated to start at once on multiple-language versions. I
am already keeping silent about the idea that the initial language option
should be Ukrainian and only Ukrainian (if the Yiddish dream does not
proceed). To write in Russian about the Jewish life of Bukovina - it is
disrespectful.

To start in multiple-language versions myself, was difficult - I am not a
professional, alas, and so the work proceeds slowly.
And about disrespect - I beg to differ. Disrespect - it is when generally
one does not speak and does not want to remember. And when starting to
remember and wanting to know - already that is a step in the right
direction.

Above all things welcome an author with this undertaking!!! A lot better to
do something in small steps, than only to dream about large ones. To us, it
remains only the frequency of visits of page voting likes us or not very
much, and the author will draw conclusions. Probably, a linguistic question
in our association must not stand in general.

Thank you. :-)))
