SCHWITZ
I remember the small wooden buckets everybody going up the steps would fill
with cold
water before climbing the steps of the Schwitz. The attendant would throw
bucketfuls of
water onto the hot stones to produce steam. The Masseur would work on you
with a
Beseml (small broom) and you would come out a new man.
   One day I slipped and the edge of the bucket ,cut my upper lip near the
nose.
Nothing would stop the bleeding ,I was taken to a Doctor who applied Lapis
(Argentum Nitricum).
   The scar is still there .
    At the end the attendant wrapped us into linen sheets and we would lie
down on plank beds
  and drink lemonade.
     Then home - through the night and snow.

Welcome Ilana,

I too have memories of being taken to the Roemerbad by my grandfather on
Fridays to prepare for Shabbat. I vividly remember that after washing my
hair the attendant broke an egg on my head and rubbed the egg in. I suspect
that the egg and my hair were rinsed after this treatmentJ.
