Hi.the following shows just a bit of ukr-rom cooperation which would be very
unlikely in the case on bad relations. cornel

The political situation in Ukraine and Romania will promote appearance of
flexible approaches to solving bipartite problems, State Secretary in the
Romanian Foreign Ministry Teodor Baconschi told the Ukrinform correspondent.

While answering the question about the future of the GUUAM, Teodor Baconschi
said that Romania considers this organization to be a form of a regional
association of pro-democratic trend and it is interested in having a
dialogue in this format. The planned participation of Romanian President
Traian Basescu in the GUUAM summit on April 22, 2005 in Chicinau, Moldova,
is a signal that the country understands importance of this organization.
Romania also hopes that all GUUAM member countries will be effectively
cooperating and that this cooperation will be more fruitful than it was till
the present time, and that it will be a European-directed cooperation.

During the visit to Ukraine Romanian Foreign Minister Mihai Ungureanu said
that he brought a number of proposals, connected with Viktor Yushchenko's
visit to Romania on April 12. Those proposals concern the European
corridors, cooperation in regulation of the Transdniestrian crisis,
transborder cooperation; proposals about introduction of standards with
regard to national minorities, the Ukrainians in Romania and the Romanians
in Ukraine. There are many spheres of cooperation between Ukraine and
Romania, the State Secretary noted, in particular in the cultural sphere.
According to him, Ukraine and Romania do not know each other, there are no
direct relations between our countries' political parties, and they are
rather insignificant between the Parliaments. Therefore, it is necessary to
catch up with the lost opportunities. "It is clear that the Governments of
Ukraine and Romania understand it", he believes.

There are many sectors in the economic sphere, where it is possible to
cooperate. Romania is interested in exports of the automobile Dacia Logan,
the price of which is rather acceptable and reaches 6,800 euro. Other
branches, such as aviation, metallurgical, light and furniture industries
are very promising for cooperation, too. Experts of Ukrainian and Romanian
Economics Ministries should search for concrete projects.

While staying in Kyiv, State Secretary Teodor Baconschi headed the Romanian
delegation to the second political meeting of the BLACKSEAFOR Agreement
member countries (at the level of Foreign Deputy Ministers). He also took
part in the work of the international conference "Prospects of Developing
Ukrainian-Romanian relations", organized by the National Institute for
international security problems under the Ukrainian National Security and
Defense Council and the regional representation of the Friedrich Ebert Fund
in Ukraine.
