Greetings,
With the permissions of the editors, I have created a webpage containing the
entire introduction of the book "Harvest of Blossoms: Poems from a Life Cut
Short," a book of poems, translated from German into English (and other
languages), written by native Czernowitzer Selma Meerbaum-Eisinger. Selma,
at the tender age of fourteen, perished in a Nazi SS camp (on December 17,
1942). Selma wrote more than fifty poems in German and translated another
five from Yiddish, French, and Romanian.
The webpage is now available for viewing. I don't know how many of you are
familiar with the book, but the introduction is moving and definitely worth
reading. The link is:
www.museumoffamilyhistory.com/cz-meerbaum-eisinger.htm. I have offered up
the idea to the book editors, Irene and Helene Silverblatt, to have a young
lady (perhaps around fourteen years of age, the age of Selma before she
died), who might have a similar accent (German?), read a poem or two from
the book of poetry (in both its original language of German, and also in
English), and include these sound clips to the page I've already created.
Certainly, this would add a special dimension to the current presentation.
Now all I have to do is find a young lady with these qualifications to do
it!
Also, the Scherzer Czernowitz lecture page has been finished and is now
awaiting the final okay from Prof. Scherzer.
By the way, you will also find mention of Prof. Julius Scherzer and his
family in the intro to the book of poetry. There are links at the bottom of
the Meerbaum-Eisinger page for those who wish to purchase it online.
Best,
Steven Lasky
