Hi, Hardy,
Regarding the announcement of the 1st of May mentioned at the end of your
e-mail.
If I am not wrong, I was the one who "sold" you the text of the announcement
during our 2006 Reunion. It was not an announcement by the Ucrainians, it
was a kind of joke attributed to "Youzku", the leader of the "Youzku
Gang". It says: "Chloptsi ! Zavtra bude Pershiy May. To ye dyzhiy
velikiy Faifertag, i dla toho vsyi Youzkos mayut fray. Zavtra zhebe vsyi
preshle s tchervonu slipku i Zylinder Hut. Dla zavtra chloptsi, soberaytese
na kupku, bo yak nie to vas shliak trafyie"
For obvious reasons, I cannot and should not translate it. The veteran
Czernowitzers would understand it.
Abraham K.
