[Cz-L] Re: czernowitz-l digest: November 14, 2008

All the stories on the Schwitz remind me of when my kids were small. My second son is nineteen months younger than my oldest but my daughter is nine years younger than my younger son. At dinner once when my daughter would have been perhaps three or less, the boys were talking about some incident that took place before my daughter was born and she became confused and curious. "Where I was?" she asked.

My wife said to her. "You weren't here yet. You were still with the angels." (God knows what my wife had told her about where babies come from - Shelley Berman had a great answer to the question "What do we tell them where babies come from?" He said, "We've had a lot of success with pointing.")

A few months later at dinner, the boys again talked about some incident that was unknown to my daughter and she said, "Was that when I was with the angels, too?"

I recal Gabe's Deli and their wonderful broetchen and learning to swim in the Prut, and skiing and picnics on Tzetzinau and I was eleven and a half when we left Cz so I should have a memory of the Schwitz - but maybe I was with the angels when my folks went there.
