Miriam (Mimi) Taylor <mirtaylo_at_indiana.edu>
As of May 1944, when Jewish children were again allowed to attend school
I was enrolled in the Yiddish school on the Siebenburger Strasse corner
Neuweltgasse. I went one month to first grade and 1 year to second grade.
That whole year my dearest dreams were to be accepted to the pioneers
and to learn to dance the Kozachuk. The ambitions of a 7 year old!
We learned to read from Elyezer Steinbarg's "Alef Beith".
Now I marvel that two month after the liberation, there was already
a functioning Yiddish school. Does anyone know whether this school
had been a Yiddish school in 1940-41?
