I can't get the picture of the goats and their herder on Herrengasse out =
of my mind.  It brings such mixed emotions.

On the one hand it tickles me and I can imagine how excited I would have be=
en as an eight year old to see live goats on Herrengasse, and how outraged s=
ome stuffed shirts might have been if that had taken place in our days and h=
ow I might have gigled over their outrage.

On the other hand, it saddens me because it is such a comedown, too. All =
the faces in all the pictures look so foreign to me.  They didn't exist in=
my world in Czernowitz.  They were shlepped in by the Russians from Siber=
ian farms or Lord knows where.  They celebrate the 600th anniversary of a =
city to which they've been connected at most for one and a half generations.=

WW II and Communism were Holocausts for far more than six million Jews.  =
One has to wonder about how many in total were slaughtered and how many ha=
d their families torn apart and have struggled for the rest of their lives=
 to find some meaning.

How fortunate in contrast have been those who settled in North America =
generations ago.
