Thank you for sharing this along with the translation. As a son of two (late) Czernowitzers, raised in New York City, I find myself not having cultivated the languages my parents, and you, grew up with, but I appreciate their sound and their character as they emerge through translation - Eytan

Subject: [Cz-L] To the czernowitzer
To all of interest
I do not know how many of the curent participants in this Forum are versed as
Czernowitzer in Judisch, German
Roumanian or other languages. I for one find that in the time I lived in
Czernowitz aquired a love of jidisch a knowledge of german, some roumanian and
some russian.
I do recollect some jewish songs that were popular at the time and my thoughts
are that some of the participants could recall these. I do not spring these as a
suprise. I am also aware there is or was a section of the populace to whom?these
songs may not have been familiar.?I also appreciate that the original jewish
Czernowitz populace has aged (I am 79) or diminished in numbers and so have
memories. If there are persons who object to my bringing to the fore these songs
I shall abide. ??
