The book by Prof. Yavetz was written and first published in German.
It's name is:
Erinerungen an Czernowitz
Wo Menschen und Buecher lebten

Published by C.H. Beck in Munich

The book is very interesting, particularly in citing examples of Czernowitz
speech and Czernowitz newspaper excerpts and giving an accurate idea of the
atmosphere. For instance on page 175 it is written:

> Zusammenfassend koente man sagen, dass die Czernowitzer Juden mehr Kultur
> konsumierten, als dass sie Kultur erzeugten.

My translation:
In summation it might be said, that Czernowitz Jews
consumed more culture than they created.

Because the book combines autobiographical material
with descriptions of political, social and cultural events
and situations, it is both, very readable and very informative.

Unfortunately the editing is occasionally very careless.
The opening historical survey, describes the Bukowina as:

> ....fruchtbare Ebenen - im Osten durch imposante Gebirgsketten von
> Siebenbuergen abgegrenzt -

My translation: ...fertile plane - separated from Transilvania
in the east by imposing mountain chains.

Transilvania and the mountains are west of the Bukowina.

I still highly recommend the book to anyone interested in Czernowitz.
