The final Romanian version of the inscription is:

   AICI A LOCUIT TRAIAN POPOVICI (1892-1946).
   ÎN 1941, CA PRIMAR AL ORAŞULUI CERNĂUŢI,
   A SALVAT DE LA DEPORTARE ÎN TRANSNISTRIA
   ŞI PROBABIL DE LA MOARTE 19600 EVREI.
   CU RECUNOŞTINŢĂ VEŞNICĂ ŞI AMINTIRE
ETERNĂ,
   EVREII CERNĂUŢENI

This version has been approved by a number of native Romanian speakers.
Shortening it, is not possible without changing the meaning or intent.

Let's not discuss the plaque, until we hear from Marianne and/or Florence.

After the latest letter we just received from Cornel about the cost of
the plaque, I am not inclined, to pursue this further, until we know
more.
