You have this nonsensical:
  Eine ganze halbe Viertelstunde ( an entire , half quarter hour) ,
    Which boils down to sevenandahalf minutes but sounds much better in
Deutsch.

  I remembered some verses of the poem and found
some 6 versions of it more or less
similar to how we knew it back at home.
This is one from the net:

Dunkel war's, der Mond schien helle,

Drinnen saßen stehend Leute,
