Re: [Cz-L] Books I read in Czernowitz

Thank you Berti, Dana, Fred and all friends for searching the net for me and
the books I remember.
The beginning of the poem Dana and Berti quotes is exactly what I remember.
It means:

It was dark, the moon shone brightly,
Snow lay on the green plain.
As a carriage lightning fast, slowly round the corner drove.
Inside sat standing people, mutely in conversation immersed,
As a dead shot rabbit on the sand bank skated.

The rest of the poem does not sound familiar and I am sure that when I was
seven years old, my parents would not have allowed me to read about
³eine alte Schachtel². (an old woman with a less than spotless past).

I am lucky to have access to the Indiana University fantastic library and
later today or tomorrow, I will be searching for these books in the stacks.
