I seem to be getting lucky but when the Cz group Cemetery project sent me a picture of my gr grandfather’s gravestone (Chaim Mordechai Rubel) I had the help of a Rabbi deciphering the name line as follows:
îåøéðå äøá ø çééí îøãëé
áï îåøéðå äøá àùø äòðæø

My cousin from Israel reads this to say:
"our teacher, the rabbi Chaim Mordechai, Son of our teacher, the rabbi Asher Haenzar"

Does anyone read this differently? I have heard of Asher as a Hebrew name but the second name “Haenzar” is unknown to me. Was the term “Rabbi” a polite phrase used on graves or, does this truly mean that both were in fact Rabbis and if so, does anyone know of a Cz Rabbi chart or a family tree for this Rabbinical family? I read somewhere that many of the Rabbis kept such things as a means of tracing their roots back to their biblical elders, ie. Abraham, Jacob, etc. Is there a stone in Cz with this name?

Finally, at the point where an ancestor did not take on a last name, where do you go as far as research?

I hope you all are not getting tired of my questions!!!I am truly blessed to have found this group and thank each of you for your help in this journey!!

[Moderator's Note: Hebrew text may not come through properly. Ken - Can you send the actual tombstone photo to anyone expressing an interest in helping you? I think the name "Haenzar" ends with a Lamed, not Resh. Moderator Bruce]
