I think this started in ww1. The original story is that the officer in the
trench said" send reinforcements,we are going to advance ....pass it on"
and by the time it got to the recipient it had become "send three and
fourpence,we're going to the dance". Cornel

I used to play "telephone" as a child in the Bronx in the 50's, played it
with my own kids and children I taught in Massachusetts, have even played it
around a campfire with a group of adults! We used to say "operator" if we
didn't hear it right, would get a second chance to hear the message.
I wonder where the game originated.
