Iosif...sorry to disagree, but the Austrian Empire had been fighting the
Turks, also called Moors in German as in English and had taken the territory
of the Bukowina from them. There is no chance at all that their enemy's
symbols would be used in their Archbishop's residence....and the Jewish
connection was confirmed to me by the University itself. Cornel

I apologize for self-citation, but here is an excerpt from my posting
to the list a year ago
(http://czernowitz.ehpes.com/czernowitz12/testfile2009-1/0736.html):

Architecturally the Residenz is eclectic, with seamless combination of
Byzantine, Roman, Moorish Revival and
Neo-Gothic styles. Six-pointed stars is a standard element in Moorish
ornamentation. While the old legend attributes the stars on the
Residenz to the acknowledgment of Jewish contributions to the
construction fund (those were very real, the final budget amounted to
the gigantic sum of 1.8 million gold florins), it is impossible to say
whether the stars were of "Jewish" or Moorish origin.
