It comes from Turkey and the name was" sarma" for "rolled".
It spread all over the Balkans where all kind o leaves and fillings were
used.
When it reached the Russians, the name became "Holuptsy " or "Goluptsy."
The Jewish version " Holischkes " became "Haluschken " for the so
called only- German speakers .
