Dear Edgar,
Thank you, I will look for those mentions of EDELSTEIN in Der Tag. The
trouble is that I don't really know which names I am looking for.
If anyone recognizes this EDELSTEIN family, please let me know:
My g-grandfather was Isaac Edelstein. He owned a grain mill, probably in or
near Sadagora. Born about 1860, died about 1930. His wife was Minnie, née
Focke, she died in the 1930s. They had about seven children, four of whom
emigrated to America: Rose (settled in Philadelphia, I am in contact with
descendants), Esther (settled in Chicago, my grandmother), Fanny (Denver and
Los Angeles, married Schwartz), and Harry (New York, no descendants). These
four were probably all born in the 1880s.
The other Edelstein children stayed in the Czernowitz area but I do not know
their names. My older relatives tell me there was correspondence from them
in Europe after the war, so we know that they survived, but we have no idea
where their descendants are today.

Dear Dale,
Thank you so much for your mail. I subscribe unreserved to your statement
concerning the participation to our list and wish I could have outlined it
as sensitive as you do. It's not off-topic at all, it's essential for the
success of our list, that each and everyone feels at home in our group, as
long she/he is interested in "genealogy and the history of the Jewish
community in the Czernowitz - Sadagora area". It doesn't matter, whether
it's a unique or a returning visitor and/or she/he is contributing actively,
although I'm encouraging all to join the discussion; I believe that was
Arthur's intention too.
BTW1: Thank you for your kind appreciation for the release of the Czernowitz
directories.
BTW2: I noticed, that you're researching "Edelstein". Are you aware, that
between March - October 1932 the name "Edelstein" was mentioned in min. 15
articles of the Czernowitz newspaper "Der Tag - The Day"
(http://czernowitzdaily.blogspot.com/)? Edelstein was at that time the
Director of the Market Authority of Czernowitz and responsible for the price
regulation, an existential question for that period of time. Are you
related?
Thank you once again for your mail. Warmest wishes & Shalom to Erbil!
