I remember very well the influence of the Litvisch Yiddish, even on our
regular Yiddish classes (1940-1941) with our teacher Haim Gininger. He used
to say, although quite "diplomatically", that "Litvish Yiddish is di
emessdike Yiddishe Sprach". Nevertheless, those of you who studied Yiddish
under the Soviets' system, probably remember the in the Soviet adopted
Yiddish alphabet there was no "end characters", like "mem" "nun" "chaf"
"tzadei" "pey", etc.

Regards, Abraham K.

The Litvak Yiddish came to Cz with the Soviet Yiddish schools.
Not only pronunciation strange to our ears but new words :
We said senen (are) they said saynen.
We said kugeln ( bullets) they said koilen.
We said explosie they said oifreiss.
Many more - do you recall ?
