Hello Cornel,

I appreciate your comments.

I agree with you that "it is wrong to judge a whole community by the
unacceptable and disgusting behaviour of the lunatic fringe" and that was
inclusive in my statement i.e. "... with the possible exception of some
extremists living in Israeli settlements on former Arab land", which
intuitively includes such extremists anywhere within Israel.

However, to compare the inhospitability of Ukranians in the town of Uman to
the extremist Jewish Rabbi and his group, is like trying to compare apples
and oranges.

The Rabbi you refer to, Rabbi Yitzhak Shapiro, wrote in his book "The King's
Torah" that even babies and children can be killed if they pose a threat to
the nation. He bases the majority of his teachings on passages quoted
from the Bible, to which he adds his opinions and beliefs. He stated that
"It is permissible to kill the Righteous among Nations even if they are not
responsible for the threatening situation," adding that "If we kill a
Gentile who has sinned or has violated one of the seven commandments -
because we
care about the commandments - there is nothing wrong with the murder".

The Rabbi clearly denotes "if they pose a threat to the nation" as
justification for murder, since the survival of the Jewish nation is at
stake. Clearly, however, this Rabbi and his followers are an extremely
radical and off-the-wall group. But has he or his followers actually
murdered non-Jews? Can you specifically cite an instance where that has
occurred?

If you have not already done so, try reading the Islamic Koran, where you
will find a manifesto of radicalism similar to Rabbi Shapiro's.

As far as "a large group of ultra-orthodox who had come to visit the
"wunder-rebbe"..and they used the surrounding area to relieve themselves..
Not the way to win friends!!! "... what does one do when nature calls and
there are no bath rooms or Andy-Gumps available? Would it not have been a
nice gesture for the Ukranian locals to offer them the use of their
facilities? Why did the locals not make such an offer? Could it be because
there is a lingering of anti-semitism involved and they simply do not want
Jews to be there? Do you think that they would want to make friends of Jews?

Eastern Europeans, for the most part, are known to be hospitable. My Mother,
who was born in Sadagura and grew up in Czernowitz and whose father was
Orthodox, told me stories of how her family, as well as many people in her
town/city, were courteous and helpful to others, whether or not those others
were Jews or even were simply traveling throuth the area.

I would hope that the Ukranians would share in that humaniutarian gesture.

Thank you,
Gary
