Thanks Bianca,
I still do not know who/when/where wrote/said that Paul Celan went to the
Meisler school.
I believe it will come to light somehow.
Anyway, at that time in 1926-27 , when PaulCelan entered first grade, ALL
officially recognized ( cu drept de publicitate) private schools were
actually Romanian schools.
The curriculum was the official Romanian and German and Hebrew were taught
as additional subjects. Am I right Anny ? Abraham?
So, Paul Celan and the other talented youngsters had early contact with
Romanian literature.
Zwi Yawetz told in one of his Radio interviews that he is always ready to
recite by heart 1000 miles of Romanian poetry.
I think this answers in a way Hardy's question.
Regards
Irene

Hello,
Celan's highschool graduation picture can be found on Ehpes Photo
Collection
click on Lilian Madfes.
Petre Solomon spent 1944-46 in then Palestine. He felt "dezradacinat"
(uprooted)
and returned to Bucharest.
Celan spent two years at the Meisler school. His parents could no
longer afford it
and he transferred to Saffa Ivriah.
Regards,
Bianca
