Dear Ruth,
What a real treasure, thank you so much for transcribing, editing and sharing this article with all of us; to the point and with very much sense of humor, a pleasure!
In my youth, long before Internet came up, "Czernowitzer Deutsch" was a recurrent object of dispute between my late father Julius Hauster and me. Raised in Romania and Germany, having attended the German kindergaten / school in Bucharest, followed by different schools and universities in Germany, speaking allegedly High German, "Czernowitzer Deutsch" sounded to me most strange, if not defective. It took me many years - and travels to Czernowitz - to overcome my juvenility and to conceive the richness of "Czernowitzer Deutsch", far beyond the "political correctness" of High German. My father would have loved this short essay - and so do I!
Warmest wishes to you!
Edgar Hauster

Subject: [Cz-L] From Ruth Gold - Emanuel Hacken's 'Das Czernowitzer Deutsch'
Dear Czernowitzians and all List members,
A brief introduction to the following subject of „Das Czernowitzer Deutsch.’
By sheer serendipity I stumbled upon a rare treasure. A few yellowed and typewriter-written pages with lots of crossed out sentences and words, as well as handwritten additions. These pages were given to me by Dr. Hacken(deceased) during an international gathering of Czernowitzians in Miami in the winter of 1990.Thinking that it might be of interest to our members, I took it upon myself to retype the text into a clean version and share it with you.
I hope you will enjoy and laugh a little.
