Dear Harold,

The spelling of your family name need not necessarily be an anglicized form. The Yiddish pronunciation of the Hebrew Nissan (the first month of the year) was Nissen, and at those times, immigrants from East Europe to the West spoke Yiiddish, and when asked by an official for their name. they would give the Yiddish pronunciation,
