hi to all ! this discovery of miriams strikes me as vital. czernowitz in
its time was the 4th biggest jewish city in the world, and no 600th anniv
event can take place without acknowledging that fact. our cemetery with
its amazing monuments to past glories is part of that heritage, moreover to
the best of my knowledge there isno similar surviving site anywhere. i
feel that as a group, spread all over the world yet still a cohesive entity,
we should be able to contact the authorities and suggest a proper cleanup of
the cemetery is essential. in return between all of us we can hopefully come
up with ideas to publicise the anniversary, help 2008 tourist attendance etc
etc etc. it may need pointing out that "der judische kopf" is a good thing
to have on side. finally, i think the approach to the city fathers should
initially come from two ways....firstly by email possibly from bruce as
moderator ond website owner and secondly by direst local approach to
ukrainian cultural attaches at embassies and consulates all over the world .
i am sure that such a concerted effort would be effective. thoughts from
all,please?????? cornel
