The name SCHOENE EISENFELD rings a loud bell in my memory: The book ARK ON
THE SEA was written by a lady of the same name, originally in Yiddish. It
was translated into Hebrew and published, in (then) Palestine, in 1947. It
told of a group of refugees fleeing Czernowitz, in 1942, shipwrecked off
the Turkish coast, later reaching Cyprus and, eventually, Palestine in
(September ?) '44. I was a five year-old kid on that ship and I have the
Hebrew version of that book.
I'd be delighted to be contacted by anyone who was with me on that
ill-fated ship VITORUL .
