Not sure if this will help but my connection to Czernowitz is the surname
TRICHTER. Not a very common name but spread across the globe. I have
located an Arnold Trichter who was married to Anna GREIF. Anna died in
Sydney Australia in 1980.
Arnold and Anna had at least two children, James Sigward Trichter born
around 1924 in Romania and if I am not mistaken, Czernowitz is or was on the
border with Romania, and a daughter named Litzy, birth date unknown.
