I recently came upon my grandfather's birth certificate. He was born in
1891 in Kiselitze. There is a box on the certificate regarding marital
status of the parents. It says that my grandfather was "illegitimate".
Knowing that his father was quite religious, I am assuming the the issuers
of the certificate were Kiselitze officials and there was no civil
ceremony recorded [only a rabbinical one].

Does anyone on this list have information regarding customs at this time
in Bukovina?
