About Ruff: In the 1898 Directory there is Dobe Ruff a midwife (Hebamme in
German) . My late cousin's - Manfred (Fredy) Wachtel (born 1922) - Birth
Certificate is signed by a midwife whose name is Esther Ruff. The Ruff
family had a branch in Storozhinetz. One of their descendants - Menachem
Ruff - lives in Petach-Tikwa, Israel.

I'd like to reaffirm Bruce Reisch's excellent statement concerning your
questions, adding the following material/data:

1. See the original scans from the 1898 directory and the cadastral map
excerpts from "The Land Register of Francis I" from the year 1854 at:

Sruel Moses Ruff, homeowner, wagoner [?], Kaliczanka 344. There is no
earlier (1895) or later (1905) address directory entry for Sruel.

2. Keeping in mind its location, it's unlikely, that house no. 344 was a
private house. My guess is, that you are looking for house no. 344 in
Kaliczanka (not Klokuczka), located somewhere very close to the Kaliczankaer
Hauptstraße. There was no house in this range of numbers in 1854, just a
parcel of land, but at the end of the 19th century the situation may have
changed.

3. Transcribing the directories, we didn't introduce any assumptions, so
it's still - with a small typo - "Sruel".

Apart from this I'd like to point to Bruce Reisch's notes and do hope these
data will be helpful to you!
